CLI overview

The major CLI lets you build Major apps, agents, skills, and workflows from your own machine. This reference covers CLI version 1.0.18. Run major --version to check yours, and major update to upgrade. For a walkthrough of the day-to-day loop, see CLI.

Install

The install script places the binary in ~/.major/bin. Confirm the install:

major --version

The major app commands need Node.js 22.12 or later and pnpm installed locally. The CLI checks for them before any major app subcommand runs.

Log in

major user login

This opens a browser page to authorize the CLI, stores your session token in your system keychain, and asks you to pick a default organization. If you only belong to one organization, it is selected automatically. See major user and major org.

Global flags

These flags work on every command.

Flag	Description
`--non-interactive`	Never prompt or open a browser. Commands that would otherwise prompt fail unless you pass the needed values as flags. It does not imply `--yes`. If you set `GIT_SSH_COMMAND`, it must be a single direct `ssh` invocation; wrappers and compound commands are rejected.
`-h`, `--help`	Show help for any command.
`-v`, `--version`	Print the CLI version (root command only).

Many commands also accept --json to print one machine-readable JSON result. Each command page lists where it is available.

`major app`	Create, clone, run, deploy, and inspect apps.
`major agent`	Manage file-based agents, their runs, and their Slack apps.
`major skill`	Manage file-based skills.
`major workflow`	Manage file-based workflows.
`major pull`, `push`, `validate`, `publish`	Sync, check, and publish the app, agent, skill, or workflow in the current folder.
`major resource`	Attach connectors to an app and switch environments.
`major vars`	Manage an app’s environment variables.
`major sandbox`	Commands that only work inside a Major sandbox.
`major org`	List and select organizations.
`major user`	Log in, log out, and set your GitHub username.
`major update`	Update the CLI to the latest version.
`major docs`	Open the Major documentation in your browser.
